NEED YOUR GRADUATION PROJECT, ARTICLE, BLOG, OR THESIS EDITED? GO NO FURTHER

Now, you’re done drafting and revising the content of your written piece. It may be a term paper, a blog, a graduation project, an article, a thesis, a speech, or a message of any length. And you’re about to hit the publish button, submit your text to your academic committee, or dispatch it to the screen of the editor in chief of a newspaper or an e-magazine. You know you have spent countless hours perfecting it, or maybe, you were confronting a fast-approaching deadline, and you didn’t have the material time to sift through it in order to weed out the odd mistake here and there. We can help.

It goes without saying, you do not want your readers to be drawn away from the main purpose of your work and get scattered, grappling with and raising their brows about errors here and there, typos, missing or misplaced punctuation, oversights, wrong word choice, instances of carry-over from your first language, grammatically of ill-formed sentences, etc.

What is the extent of editing?

Editing is where IdiomOptima comes in. We leave no stone unturned in editing your work. Expect no less than a fully-edited, press-ready manuscript. Occasionally, we go as far as reshuffling a paragraph because your supporting sentences do not follow the main idea sentence. Or because of redundant information, or lack of clarity somewhere. But the outcome will be edited to your hearts’ desire.

Why proofread?

It may well be the case the type of work you have written does not so much need editing as much as it requires casting just a proofreading, scrutinizing pair of eyes to detect and correct lower-level mistakes occurring every once in a while This too, we manage. In the final analysis, any work that you publish is and will be in the public domain for ever and ever. Errors, big and small, will constitute part of your ID for many years to come, and will haunt you, many years hence.

How do you go about the editing process?

You may have questions about how the editing/proofreading process goes. It has always been my understanding that most customers would like to see where modification has taken place in the original, pre-edited text. For this, I use the track change features in MS word. I could of course enter modifications directly into the text without adding any marks to it, but I believe the exercise has its merits for the originator of the text and the proofreader.

For the text author, highlighted corrections give them the opportunity to see what exactly the mistake is. It may be that there is a systematic error they are making, and seeing it highlighted brings awareness of it. I would expect that upon gaining awareness of two or more occurrences of the error will cause the author to take mental note of this, perceive why it is an error, see it rectified, and learn not to make it in the future.

What do I gain from track changes?

Here is another benefit of track changes. Evidently, within a text, track changes are modifications to the text. Sometimes, especially if there are multiples changes in the same line or sentence, editor-induced errors slip in. This may be a missing space or creating two spaces between words. It may be lack of coordination, having for example changed the subject of the sentence from singular to plural, without doing the corresponding coordination between the subject and the verb. This is why, after I am done with the track changes, I personally create a new version of the text, where I accept all changes. Then I reread your text and make sure to weed out all other mistakes that may have outlived my first run.

Eventually, I send you two copies, one with track changes, and one clean copy where absolutely no errors are left to mar the quality of your work.

O, by the way, how much do you charge?

One last point about cost bears making. Let’s suppose you’ve sent me an article or a chapter of 40 pages or whatever length or number of words. You want to know how much this is going to cost you. Here too, there is no room for surprises. Before I embark on the task of editing/proofreading, I make sure we reach agreement on my editing fee. Standard procedure is to review two or three pages of your work, send you one version with track changes, and another without. Along with this, I send you an exact determination of how much it will cost you, based on the amount of editing work I will have invested in terms of hours. If you like the quality of work I have done (and you will), and if you find the cost reasonable, you will respond back, saying you are interested (or not interested) in working with me. If you do not wish to proceed, I will ask no questions of you, and there will be no consequence whatsoever. And no hard feelings. Your satisfaction is more valuable than any publicity campaign I may mount.
